Viva Christo Rey

I saw the movie "For Greater Glory" tonight and I was very impressed.  I have to admit that I know next to nothing about the events that the movie tells (except for a brief gloss over by a Spanish professor this semester.)  The movie opens in Mexico in 1926 and tells the true story of how the Cristeros fought to protect their freedom to practice their faith.  In 1926, the president of Mexico, Plutarco Elias Calles, begins a series of anti-Catholic laws that prohibit Mass services, enforces the deportation of foreign born bishops and priests, murdered members of the clergy, and destroyed churches.

I enjoyed the set up of the movie as it followed the paths of many characters until all of the characters converge upon each other as their paths cross in the plot.  I must admit that for a good portion of the beginning, it was difficult to tell the difference between some characters and know who was who.

This movie is violent and a tear jerker as it delves into sacrifice, faith, and freedom.  I found myself tearing up several times in the movie which has a run time of 143 minutes.

Due to my lack of knowledge of the events of the Cristeros War, I am unsure of how true the film remains to the story.  However, I liked how the story avoided a lot of cliches that a lot of historical movies have. There was some excellent moments of dialogue in the film and I highly recommend it.

Tall Katastrophe's Rules for Being Slightly Successful at Life.  Or even mediocrely  successful.  (In no particular order.)

1)  When you are in a parking lot or store, know where you are going.  Don't just stop in the middle of the walkway, aisle, or road to text, talk to a friend, etc.  Don't trust me to stop in time because you had to update your Twitter about buying soup for dinner.
2)  If you are in public with your kids, at least try to control them.  For the rest of us.
3) If you don't have kids, don't judge parents out in public with their kids.  Seriously.
3)  Tip well at restaurants--it affects the rest of your server's day.
4) Don't bring young kids to inappropriate movies.
5) Don't text, talk, or be loud during movies.  It's making it hard to eat the food I snuck in there.  I don't want the glare of your smart phone alerting the movie theater ushers.
6) Talk to the cashiers at stores like they are actual human beings.
7) Stay on a budget as much as possible.
8) Dollar stores can be fun when you are broke.
9) Tell the people who matter in your life how much they mean to you.
10)  "Don't put twinkies on your pizza."  (Heavyweights)
As the title of my blog indicates, I am fairly tall (six foot three) and I like to ponder things about the world.  I enjoy movies and cooking and photography.  I'm quite sarcastic but I can also be silly.  Eventually when I figure out this whole blog deal, I will post some of my creative literary work and I would love feedback.
Till the next time, I leave you with a joke:  How does a pepper get mad?  He gets jalapeno face.  Badoomm--tssss.

So long and thanks for all the fish.
